What Is Hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation is one of the most common skin complaints we see, with over 40% of middle-aged woman reporting to have some form of discoloration, weather that be hyperpigmentation, melasma, sunspots or post-inflammatory trauma.  Hyperpigmentation is a condition that causes your skin to darken. This can affect patches of your skin, or your entire body and it can impact people of any race or ethnicity.

What Causes Hyperpigmentation?

Skin gets it colour from a substance called melanin, which is made by skin cells. When those skin cells are damaged or unhealthy, they can produce too much melanin. The melanin can clump, causing that area to appear darker. Whilst many things can lead to hyperpigmentation, the most common causes are:

  • Sun damage
  • Adrenal disorders
  • Genetics
  • Hormone changes during puberty or pregnancy
  • Injury to the skin, such as acne, cuts or burns (causing post inflammatory hyperpigmentation)
  • Medications that cause sensitivity to light
  • Vitamin deficiencies
  • Thyroid disorders

Although it is a common skin complaint that is triggered by so many internal and external factors, it is still a skin condition that can be stubborn to treat. Hyperpigmentation isn’t something we can get rid of overnight; it requires commitment both at home and in clinic, to not only treat the pigmentation already presenting on the skins epidermal layer, but to also ensure that we prevent the formation of any new discolouration by managing melanin levels internally with medical grade, clinically proven, skincare ingredients.

What is the Cosmelan System?

Dermanude Skin Clinic has introduced the Mesoestetics Cosmelan System for exactly that. It is a long-term discolouration programme that works to target all types of discoloration and is safe for every skin phototype. Cosmelan is ideal for clients who suffer with melasma, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, severe freckles, and severe age spots/sun damage. This programme has been formulated to ensure long term results, using a combination of in clinic treatments, and a specialised homecare routine specifically for discoloration.

Depigmentation treatment in Altrincham, Hale, Greater Manchester

Your In-Clinic Treatment Plan

You will receive two in clinic treatments, the first is the Melanostop® Superficial Prep Resurfacing peel & Dermalux LED Light Pigmentation Protocol, 48 hours after your initial appointment you will receive your Cosmelan Depigmentation Peel. You will leave the clinic with the Cosmelan peel still on your skin, depending on your skin type this can be left on for anywhere between 8-12 hours. This stage in your programme focuses on correction.

Your At-Home Treatment Plan

Before your initial in clinic appointment, you will be given 2 weeks of homecare to prep your skin for your professional treatments. Once you have received your two in clinic treatments you will leave with the depigmentation programme. The products and ingredients have been specifically formulated to not only treat discolouration, but to ensure we keep it at bay long term to maintain your Cosmelan results. We do this with the use of tyrosinase inhibitors. Tyrosinase is the enzyme your skin needs to make melanin, the pigment that makes the skin darker.

50% of your results will be from the correct use of the specially formulated Mesoestetics discolouration products.  This stage in your programme focuses on maintaining your results and preventing any further discolouration from occurring.

A 12-month depigmentation programme, not a one off in clinic treatment
