Depigmentation in Altrincham

Depigmentation

If you’ve been dealing with dark patches, uneven tone, or marks that just won’t shift, you’re not alone. Pigmentation can be stubborn, and it often comes back when it’s treated in the wrong way, or when the real trigger isn’t addressed.

At Dermanude Skin Clinic, we take a calm, structured approach. We look at what’s causing the pigmentation, how your skin is behaving right now, and what it can realistically tolerate. Then we put together a plan that combines the right in-clinic treatments with the right home routine, so you can see steady improvement and keep your results for the long term.

What we mean by “depigmentation”

Depigmentation isn’t one single treatment. It’s a programme designed to reduce the look of dark patches and bring your skin tone back into balance.

Depending on your skin and the type of pigmentation, your plan may include professional peels, LED light therapy, SkinPen Microneedling, Cosmelan, DECAAR, and IPL for suitable skin types, alongside medical-grade skincare that supports the skin barrier and helps regulate pigment.

You’ll usually notice your skin looking brighter first. Then, as the weeks go on, darker areas start to soften and blend more naturally with the surrounding skin.

What depigmentation can help with

We commonly see clients at Dermanude Skin Clinic for:

  • Sun spots and sun damage
  • Melasma (hormonal pigmentation)
  • Post-acne marks (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation)
  • Uneven tone and dull-looking skin
  • Staining after irritation or skin flare-ups
  • Dark marks on the face, neck, and chest

If you’ve tried strong products at home and ended up with more irritation, that can be a sign your skin barrier needs attention before you do anything more active. That’s a big part of what we look at during your consultation.

Why pigmentation happens

Your skin produces melanin to protect itself. But when pigment cells get overstimulated, the melanin can become uneven and settle in patches.

Some of the most common triggers are:

  • Sun exposure (even in the UK)
  • Hormonal shifts (pregnancy, contraception, perimenopause)
  • Heat and inflammation
  • Picking spots or aggressive exfoliation
  • The wrong skincare for your skin type
  • Ongoing sensitivity or barrier damage

Getting clear on the trigger matters, because it changes what we recommend, and how we structure your treatment plan.

How we approach depigmentation at Dermanude Skin Clinic

1) Consultation and skin assessment

We start by looking closely at your skin and your history. If needed, we’ll use skin analysis to understand the pattern and depth of the pigmentation, and whether there’s also redness, dehydration, or sensitivity in the background.

2) In-clinic treatments (chosen for your skin, not a trend)

Your plan may include a combination of:

Professional peels (Obagi or Decaar combined with Dermalux LED)
We use medical-grade professional peels from Obagi Medical or Decaar, followed by Dermalux LED therapy to lift surface pigmentation, improve brightness and refine skin texture without unnecessarily over-stressing the skin. The addition of LED helps to calm inflammation, support recovery and strengthen the skin barrier throughout a course of pigment-correction treatments.

SkinPen microneedling
SkinPen microneedling is recommended when pigmentation is combined with uneven texture, mild scarring or loss of skin quality. It supports cellular renewal and collagen stimulation, helping to improve overall tone, smoothness and skin resilience while addressing certain types of stubborn marks.

Lumecca IPL
Lumecca is an advanced IPL technology that can be highly effective for sun damage and specific pigment patterns. It is only recommended where appropriate, following a thorough skin assessment, and is selected when your skin type and pigmentation profile make it a safe and suitable option.

Cosmelan depigmentation programme
The mesoestetic Cosmelan depigmentation programme is a structured, clinically proven treatment pathway designed to target more persistent and hormonally influenced pigmentation, such as melasma. This programme works by regulating pigment production at the source and is supported by a prescribed home-care routine to achieve clearer, more even and longer-lasting results.

3) Home care and SPF (the part that protects your results)

Pigmentation treatment doesn’t hold without the right home routine. We’ll guide you on:

  • Products that help regulate pigment gently
  • Barrier support to reduce sensitivity and inflammation
  • How to exfoliate safely (if appropriate)
  • Daily broad-spectrum SPF, and how to use it properly

This is usually where people see the biggest difference, because it stops the cycle that causes pigmentation to return.

What results to expect

Pigmentation doesn’t vanish overnight, but it can improve a lot with the right plan.

Most clients notice:

  • Skin looks brighter and fresher within the first few weeks
  • Dark patches soften gradually over 6 to 12 weeks
  • Tone becomes more even, and makeup sits better
  • Fewer flare-ups once triggers are under control

For some types of pigmentation (especially melasma), maintenance is part of the deal. The aim is long-term control, not a quick fix that rebounds.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on:

  • What type of pigmentation you have
  • How deep it is and how long it’s been there
  • Your skin tone and sensitivity level
  • How consistent you can be with home care and SPF

We’ll talk you through a realistic timeframe during your consultation, and we’ll keep things manageable and clear.

Aftercare and what to avoid

To help your skin settle and protect your progress, we usually recommend:

  • Wearing SPF daily and reapplying when needed
  • Avoiding heat (sauna, steam rooms, very hot showers) right after treatment
  • Skipping harsh scrubs and strong acids unless advised
  • Not picking spots or “chasing” pigment with random products
